CopyCamp was great. It was a truly unique event that I was glad to be a part of. The organizers did a great job of putting on the plushest (or plushiest) unconference style event I could ever imagine. I learned so much and it was so great to talk with people in the art community about technology and how it will change the realities of their work and working environment in the future. To find out more checkout the CopyCamp wiki or the flickr photos.

This was a video I used to introduce a session that I conducted. The session was about using puppets (or if I was Oscar Wilde, masks) as a way of allowing ourselves to say things we might not normally say. Acting for Introverts. The content of this video is meant to be a light commentary on general issues in copyright and how entertainment will be consumed in the future.

After the video we tried to do an impromptu session with the puppets. It was a lot of fun but we didn’t get a lot of solid thoughts. That was ok because I think that lightening up the event a little was cool because there was so much great ideas at the event. Below are some pictures taken from the video we took of the session.

I was asked to be part of the SpeedGeek at the recent CopyCamp. The SpeedGeek was a congregation of 14 presentation setups where 14 groups could watch 14 five minute presentations by going through the room. This is a video that was hacked together by combining an audio recording by Phillip Smith of one of my presentations sync’d to the images I brought to show. I had a lot to say in my 3-4 minutes plus questions and doing that 14 times in a row is very tiring : – )

I talked about the rich (albeit year old) history of BarCamp from a Toronto perspective and what our community has done.

So in my rush to meet the timeline I made some mistakes. Minor mistakes like saying the first BarCamp was in SF instead of PA, and that we have 4 demos at DemoCamp instead of 5. There are other mistakes but hopefully no one will be too upset.

It’s a small gathering, limited to 75 participants, with a focus on practical skills for user experience professionals – designers, information architects, interaction designers, front-end architects, usabilitistas, and anyone else who’s passionate about making things work well for people. CHECK Out the speakers below the schedule is amazing.

LATEST ADDITIONS TO OUR SCHEDULE

Liz Danzico Confirmed!
Liz Danzico, Editor-in-Chief of pioneering UX mag Boxes and Arrows, is going to speak at Canux 2006! For all the talk of Web 2.0, there’s been little said about how content fits into the world of AJAX, RSS, social media, and RESTful APIs. Liz will draw on her experience helming the web’s premier UX publication, and her day job with the AIGA as Director of Experience Strategy where she manages content strategy for platforms ranging from AIGA’s print book publishing to member created sites.

John Morkes Confirmed
John Morkes, of Expero, Inc. and Free Usability Advice, is confirmed for CanUX 2006! We are delighted that John accepted our invitation to speak – his sessions at the NNGroup’s User Experience tour have been fantastic – his topics include content usability and writing for the web. John will be speaking about "Joy of Use: Is It Time Yet?".

 Kevin Cheng Confirmed
Kevin Cheng, of OK Cancel fame, is confirmed for CanUX 2006! – his workshop and session at the IA Summit were amazing – using comics as a rapid prototyping tool is very very cool. So if you missed him at the Summit, or see his excellent work again, come to Banff.

 Banff Centre Leadership Development Confirms!
Adding to our world class roster of speakers, we’ve confirmed with Colin Funk that the Leadership Development program will participate in CanUX 2006. Colin’s session on improv last year was a highlight of the event for many, and it really set CanUX apart from simply being a collection of user experience tutorials.

More speakers will be added soon. (but this list is amazing already so you need to come)

Last years event was really great and Banff in the fall is incredible. Look at the photos from last year:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/canux/

 REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN
http://www.canux2006.com/?page_id=5
