Hi Bryce

Make Dynamics (start with CRM) and Sharepoint and TFS (Web Access) consistent to end users. Please.

Remember the early days of office when an end user got used to Excel, and we could show them that the switch from WordPerfect to Word would be fine.

eg. “See Mary, it has the same File Menu and look at the toolbar, and the Tools | Options is the same place.”

Well today I have bosses who love SharePoint, but I get no loyalty from them or their end users, when evaluating CRM4 vs Salesforce for their CRM. No loyalty because knowing SharePoint, does not help you know CRM.

The first thing they want to do is change a few things… add a few fields…. so start with making the customizing consistent…
eg.
- modifying a list in Sharepoint
- modifying an entity in MS CRM
- modifying a work item in TFS

Should all be the same experience.

Congrats Bryce! Give ‘em heck down there and please ask them nicely to nuke the GP Report Writer. GP is a boon as far as new users getting up to speed because there is so much complexity. Enjoy the coast!

Brilliant. Tron-o, indeed. Congrats. It’s good timing too, because we’ve basically had Seattle weather here for the past 2 weeks, so you’ll be totally acclimated.

Also, if and when you make it to Fargo, be sure to head to the Mexican restaurant that’s right downtown on the main strip. Seriously the best Mexican I’ve ever had. Soooo good. Yum. Thanks, Fargo.

I agree with your concerns. I think there will be a period of adolescence while developers figure out the best applications of these new tools. Kinda like when .Net first came out and everyone was using DataGrids everywhere, and gradually the better developers have returned to favouring Repeaters. But that’s what design *is*, in part - knowing how to use the tools you have at hand to express your intentions.

sorry but enterprise technology is way more than software…it is appropriate use of hw, sw, telecomms and people…sw is only 20% of IT budgets…

also 80% of messaging today in enterprises is between servers, devices, sensors…while people interfaces and web 2.0 is important it is only part of a CIO’s challenge. I know there is a simplistic view out there that web 2.0 and social networking will “revolutionize” the enterprise. They have a clear role but so do virtualization, mobility,telemetry, predictive analytics and a bunch of other stuff which have just as dramatic an impact on business processes…
